Curious about community schools but not quite sure where to start?

Community School Essentials is a free, 30-minute webinar that offers a practical introduction to the foundational concepts, principles, and practices that make community schools such a powerful approach to supporting students, families, and communities.

Whether you're new to community schools, exploring the approach for your school or district, or simply looking for a refresher, this session will help you build a shared understanding of what community schools are–and what they are not. Together, we'll explore the core elements of the community school approach, the conditions that help the work thrive, and why community schools are increasingly being embraced as a strategy for advancing whole-child outcomes.

This webinar is a great first step for educators, school leaders, Community School Coordinators, district staff, and community partners who want to learn more before diving deeper into the work.

What you’ll walk away with:

1
A foundational understanding of the community school approach and its core principles;
2
Familiarity with key concepts, language, and structures commonly used in community school development;
3
Insight into how community schools support student success, belonging, and whole-child outcomes;
4
A clearer understanding of where your school, district, or organization may be on its community school journey;
5
Ideas for how to continue learning and deepen your practice; and
6
Connections to additional CSLX resources, workshops, and learning opportunities.

While we do not provide individualized support during the workshop itself, CSLX facilitators will stay in the Zoom room after the session to answer questions you might have, related to the content shared during the workshop. Depending on the number of Office Hours attendees, this may also be an opportunity to dig a bit deeper into the concepts covered with your workshop facilitators, with more specificity.

Yes! This workshop is designed for principals at all stages in their principalships and at different stages of community school development, along with the people who support them.

Registered participants will receive the materials and resources we cover through a page only accessible by registered participants.

No. This is a participatory, introductory session that is designed to give you the tools, strategies, and resources to strengthen your understanding of the role of the CS principal and what it takes to be effective in this position. During the workshop, there will be opportunities to share out about your individual contexts during small group breakouts, but no individualized support. If you’d like more personalized support, we’d love to support you. Send us a note.

The workshop presentation and group community share-outs will be recorded and shared with workshop registrants after the workshop. Breakout group discussions held during each workshop will not be recorded. Recordings will be shared within a week after the workshop and will be available for 30 days.
