Beyond the Needs Assessment: Using Equity-Driven Data Strategies for Successful CS Development

Beyond the Needs Assessment: Using Equity-Driven Data Strategies for Successful CS Development is a two-hour virtual workshop designed to help you understand data collection and analysis through a community school lens. Facilitated by the Community Schools Learning Exchange (CSLX) and Public Profit, this interactive session will walk you through the different processes and strategies you can use to truly live with and use your data–and give you opportunities to practice new skills and share your own practices.

As a result of this session, participants will:

  • Learn how to view data collection and analysis through a community school lens, including creating a data culture of collaborative curiosity and learning;
  • Gain an understanding of how data is used at different stages of community school development;
  • Get opportunities to practice interactive data collection and meaning making practices with your fellow community school practitioners; and
  • Receive FREE tools and materials designed to support your equity-driven work.

Community Schools Site Visit - Oakland USD Fremont High School

On Friday, May 17th, Fremont High is generously opening its doors to give fellow community school practitioners the chance to learn from the Fremont school community, engage in conversations around school governance and youth leadership, and visit a number of Fremont High School’s dynamic spaces, like the Fremont Tiger Clinic (school-based health center), the restorative justice room, and the Media Academy.

Whether you are new to community schools or have been doing this work over decades, you are invited to join Oakland Unified School District and the Community Schools Learning Exchange (CSLX) at Fremont High School for an opportunity to refine your community school strategy in community with like-minded peers. Walk and talk with us and see what all the buzz is about!

By joining, participants will:

  • Have a better understanding of what a community school strategy within a full-service district looks like in practice, including: youth voice, shared decision making and governance, partnerships, and sustainability;

  • Learn promising strategies and challenges around shared governance from the Fremont High School team;

  • Have candid and authentic conversation with your peers about the challenges and growth of your community school development work;

  • Have articulated specific, concrete next steps to help you work toward your goals and community school strategy.
