Kendra Fehrer

Kendra Fehrer is a social science researcher, educator, human services practitioner, and program evaluator who has worked extensively in the areas of community schools and whole child development. She comes to CSLX after eight years at the John W. Gardner Center for Youth and their Communities at Stanford University, where she served as Senior Research Associate, leading much of the Gardner Center’s community schools work. She is an author of The Way We Do School: The Making of Oakland’s Full-Service Community School District (Harvard Ed Press), and numerous other academic and practitioner-facing publications on community school implementation, school-based mental health, family engagement, and youth development.

Kendra also brings a background in early childhood education, outdoor education, mindfulness, and school-based services. She holds an active preschool teacher credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, and spends at least part of every week learning and playing with children. Kendra holds a BA and MA in International Development and Social Change from Clark University, and a PhD in Anthropology from Brown University.
